Description
This is a house in multiple occupation, dating to the early 17th century. It is constructed of large dressed stone, with a stone slate roof. The building follows a three-room hall-and-crosswing plan, incorporating a through-passage and a rear single-cell kitchen wing. The front elevation features two gables, coped with kneelers, projecting over the main housebody and further over the wing. All windows are double-chamfered mullioned, with cavetto moulded mullions. The parlour wing has a six-light window with a king mullion, above which is a four-light window to the first floor. A two-light window is present in the right-hand return wall. The hall is set slightly back and features a six-light window with a king mullion (with two lights blocked), above which is a three-light window to the first floor. To the rear, a three-light former fire-window is positioned above a five-light chamfered mullioned window to the first floor. A doorway has a chamfered surround. Small, chamfered two-light windows are located at the service end, with matching windows above. A stepped string course runs continuously across the ground floor windows. The left-hand return wall includes a single-storey gabled porch to the right of a tall lateral stack with offsets. A second stack rises from the ridge, with three further stacks present on the ridge of the main range. The rear kitchen wing has a diamond-set stack and a three-light chamfered mullioned window with a single light above to the first floor. The left-hand return wall of this wing features a three-light chamfered mullioned window to the ground floor, above which is a five-light double-chamfered mullioned window to the first floor, topped with a coped gable and kneelers. The interior is believed to retain an original fireplace in the parlour wing.
