Description

This is an early 17th-century house with an added wing dated 1641. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The north front features double-chamfered mullioned windows. The first cell has five lights to the first floor, with a six-light window above. The second cell has a three-light window above. The windows have hoodmoulds with straight returns to the ground floor, and heart-shaped label stops to the first floor. A gabled wing projects forward, with a plinth and a cavetto-moulded string course above the ground-floor window. The ground-floor window of the wing is eight-light double-chamfered mullioned, and the first-floor window is a sixteen-light mullioned and transomed window, also with a hoodmould and heart-shaped label stops. The rear of this wing has a partly obscured doorway with a depressed Tudor-arched lintel inscribed "R T 1 6 4 1 R T" within a tressure and elaborate moulded surround including cyma and step mouldings. A broad projection, formerly a stack, is visible on the right-hand return wall of the wing, now truncated. The left-hand return wall of the main range has an inserted doorway with monolithic jambs, which now serves as the main entrance.

The rear of the house has an impressive range of windows forming two bays, with double-chamfered mullioned windows of five lights to the ground floor and ten-light mullioned and transomed windows to the first floor, again with hoodmoulds and heart-shaped label stops. The gables are coped with kneelers and stacks.

Inside the wing, a segmental arched fireplace rests on a joggled skewback with a chamfered surround and elaborate stops. To the left of the fireplace is a domed beehive oven.
