Description
This is a house located to the northwest of Friths Farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century. It has a two-cell layout with an added single-storey cell from the 19th century. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It stands at one and a half storeys tall.
The west front displays quoins on the first cell and a chamfered mullioned window with three lights, although it is missing a mullion. Above this window is a small light with a chamfered surround. The second cell is larger and has a double chamfered mullioned window with four lights, which is blocked and missing two mullions. There is also a blocked two-light window above it and a two-light double chamfered mullioned fire-window. The left-hand return wall features a two-light chamfered window with arched heads at ground level. Timbers built into the wall may suggest an earlier structure.
On the east front, there are quoins and the original door entry, which has a heavy lintel and composite jambs with 'wuzzing stick' holes, though this doorway is now blocked. Above it is a pitching hole. There is a semi-circular arched light with an original two-light chamfered mullioned window that has an arched one-piece lintel and sunken spandrels. Above this window is a single light that corresponds to one on the west front.
Inside, the original plan includes a baffle entry against a heck, with a post on a stylobat still surviving. The spine beams rest on a renewed bressumer, and this former housebody now serves as a stable. There are stone stairs in the northern room, which features a fireplace with a stone shelf from the early 19th century. The spine beams are made from reused timbers with half lap joints, and there are no stacks at the ridge.
