Description

A farmhouse, dating to 1686, situated in two occupations. The building is constructed of large dressed stone, with a stone slate roof. It originally comprised two main rooms, with a single-storey outshut at the rear. A mid-18th century lean-to extension now forms the entrance on the south facade. The doorway is topped with a square lintel inscribed 'JGJ 1686', incorporating a small, arched light with spandrels within a chamfered surround. To the right of the entrance, there is a two-light window lacking its mullions. Above it is a four-light mullioned window, also lacking two mullions, with subsequent alteration of the window jambs. Further right is a four-light chamfered mullioned window (retaining a central king mullion, while two mullions are absent) with a three-light window above, again with altered longer jambs. Two dressed stacks are present on the gable ends. Inside the main room, a large fireplace features a low, elliptical arched lintel with roll moulding on moulded corbels, though the jambs have been replaced. A bressumer beam is present, along with stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The hearth is constructed of thin, large dressed stone slabs. A king post roof truss with a groove to the soffit, possibly for studding or panelling connected to a firehood, sits directly above the bressumer.
