Description

The Shop is a weigh-house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the mid-19th century and built for the Rochdale Canal Company. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a stone slate roof and consists of one storey with two bays, originally featuring a side entry.

The west front has a rusticated plinth with a band. In the first bay on the right, there are two steps leading up to an inserted doorway that has a 20th-century door and a stone lintel. The facade is dominated by a canted bay window resting on a rectangular base, which has two lights on each face, a cornice, a blocking course, and coping. The left side features shaped kneelers and ashlar coping, although the left side is rendered. There is an external stack on the left, which is also rendered, and a gable finial on the right. To the right, there is a narrow, lower bay with a flat roof and a blocking course.

At the rear, there is one original two-light window. The right return has a blocked doorway on the left that has been converted into a window, along with a cornice and a two-light window on the right. The left return features one original two-light window.
