Description
A row of six cottages dates from the late 18th century. The cottages are built of hammer-dressed stone with a watershot finish, featuring quoins and a stone slate roof. They are two storeys high, with underdwelling basements built into the hillside. Originally, the cottages had flat-faced mullioned windows of six lights, with a taller fourth light. Most windows have now been altered to feature two square lights on either side of a central light, with the first light blocked. Some windows have lowered sills. The basement underdwellings have doorways with tie-stone jambs and a five-light stepped window that has been altered to three lights. The rear of the cottages features doorways with tie-stone jambs and former two-light windows that have lost their mullions. Number 1 has the date “1790” carved into its door lintel, although the lettering is a 20th-century addition. Quoins are visible between numbers 3 and 5. There are five stacks on the ridge of the roof.
