Description

North Bridge, also known as Northgate Bridge, is a drinking fountain built in the mid to late 19th century. It features two wide cast iron spans supported by a central pier and rough stone abutments, which rise into four castellated turrets. The bridge is adorned with Gothic tracery in the spandrels and balustrade. At the time of inspection, a bridge crossing this one was under construction at a higher level. Attached to the southwest turret is a memorial drinking fountain that is dated 1871.
