Description
North Lodge to Milner Field and attached gate piers is a lodge built between 1871 and 1873 by T. Harris for Titus Salt Junior. It features hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and Welsh blue-slate roofs. The lodge is two storeys with attics and has an asymmetrical design, including a gabled wing on the left and a slightly set-back hall range that is surmounted by a broached turret with a conical roof. The pitched gable of the hall range has a prominent stack with offsets. All windows have square heads with lintels and sills and composite jambs. A flat-roofed single-storey bay projects at the front, with a 2-light window on the first floor and a corbel table above supporting the slightly projecting attic gable. The gable features a chamfered window and is coped with kneelers. The hall range has a doorway to the right of the window and arrow slits in the first-floor turret. The right-hand return wall has a jettied gable with a corbel table.
The ashlar gate piers have offsets on the front and sides, ending in gabled capstones that feature a band with Gothic trefoil-headed insets.
