Description

The Lodge is a lodge, dating from circa 1867 and designed by Lockwood and Mawson as part of Longwood Hall. It is constructed of dressed stone with a Welsh blue-slate roof. The building is three bays and has a T-shaped plan with a projecting wing to the right. It is a single-storey building with a plinth, an impost band, and a modillioned cornice. All windows are arched and feature keystones. The first bay features a canted bay with a Venetian window, with smaller lights set within the side walls and a hipped roof. The central doorway is framed by an open porch with Corinthian pilasters, one of which supports two arches at right angles, with console keystones, and a flat roof. The gabled wing has a single sash window and a coped gable. Two tall chimney stacks are topped with dog-kennel-style caps. Further arched windows are visible on the left and right returns.

The Lodge is a good example of a 19th-century lodge, retaining its original window arrangement.
