Description

This is a group of seven cottages located at 22-36 Hebden Bridge Road, Oxenhope, Keighley. The cottages were built in the early to mid-19th century, with two distinct phases of construction: numbers 22-30 and numbers 32-36. They are constructed of coursed millstone grit with stone slate roofs. The cottages are two storeys high, with number 22 also having a basement cellar, and numbers 26 and 28 having cellar outhouses. Each cottage has one bay. The doorways have plain stone surrounds. The windows are flat-faced mullion windows with raised cills, featuring two or three lights. The ground-floor window of number 26 has had its mullions removed. Numbers 32-36 have a raised first-floor cill band. The left side of the building features shaped kneelers and ashlar coping. There are six corniced ridge stacks. This group demonstrates group value in exhibiting a characteristic example of early industrial vernacular.
