Description
The Church of the Holy Trinity is an 1828 Commissioners' church built in an economical lancet Gothic style. The architect was John Oates. The church is a simple rectangular structure of sandstone, appearing like brick, with ashlar dressings. It includes a west tower and a short chancel. Thin buttresses are present with pinnacles at the corners. The tall west tower features offset buttresses, a clock stage, a crow-wing belfry, and a crenellated parapet with gabled capped pinnacles to the corners. The interior is a plain hall with galleries on three sides, supported by clustered cast iron columns. The gallery fronts are simply panelled, and the ceiling has shallow ribs. A north vestry was added in the late 19th century, displaying Perpendicular detailing.
