Description

This is a terrace of workers' houses completed in 1857 as part of the Saltaire model village, designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt. The houses are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with Welsh slate roofs. The terrace consists of 23 to 44 Ada Street. The majority of the houses are single bay and two storeys high, with a plain doorway and one window to each floor, set above a sill band. The end houses are slightly larger, with two bays, and have a projecting design and round-arched doorway and window, adorned with archivolted detailing. Some houses have had bathroom windows inserted, while others have been rendered or painted. Wooden brackets support the guttering on the end houses. All houses have a hipped roof. The return elevations, at the ends of the terrace, are two bays wide. The end houses were given a more decorative appearance due to their visual prominence facing Caroline Street and Titus Street.
