Description
Moorside Farmhouse and the adjoining barn are located on Scott Lane in Low Moor. The farmhouse features early to mid 19th century refronting and has been doubled in size, with parts of the original early 18th century structure still visible at the rear. The front of the farmhouse, facing the road, is two storeys high and constructed from sandstone bricks, topped with a stone slate roof and bracketted eaves. It has corniced chimneys and three windows with revealed sashes, along with a plain doorway. The original farmhouse, which makes up the rear half, is also two storeys and built from irregularly coursed gritstone with large quoins, and it has a stone slate roof. A date stone inscribed with "J R" (for John Rookes) indicates it was built in 1700. The rear section has two windows, with the mullions removed from one and the other featuring splayed reveals on the ground floor. There is a mocked two-light chamfered mullion window on the gable end. Adjacent to the farmhouse is a late 18th century barn, which is at a right angle to the house. This barn is made from large sandstone blocks and has a stone slate roof, featuring a crown post roof structure and arrow/slit ventilators. A bier/mistal adjoins the barn.
