Description

The stocks located to the east of Thornton Hall are likely from the 17th or 18th century. They consist of three solid stone blocks. On the left, there is a short plain stone post, and on the right, a taller stone post that is chamfered at the top and bottom, which was probably used as a whipping post. Between these two posts, the third block is slotted into a groove on the inner face of each post and is cut at the top to accommodate the legs of two people. The top board of the stocks is missing.
