Description
Nos 927, 929, and 931 on Harrogate Road are a group of buildings dating from around 1830-1840, with No 927 being a rebuild of an earlier inn or structure. The buildings are two stories tall and constructed of sandstone with a "brick" finish, topped with stone slate roofs. Nos 929 and 931 form a rear wing and barn or stabling area, with the pub front at a right angle to the road. No 927 features tripartite square mullioned windows, while the cottages have two-light square mullion windows. A late 19th-century pilastered shop front has been inserted into the former barn. The north gable end has a saddlestone with kneelers, and there is a segmental voussoir arched portal leading to the barn. This public house likely functioned as a coaching inn for travelers on the Harrogate road.
