Description
This is a terrace of workers' houses located in Saltaire. Completed in 1857, they were designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt as part of the Saltaire model village. The houses are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with Welsh slate roofs. They are two storeys high and generally one bay wide, although the end houses are slightly larger, projecting forward and featuring two bays with round-arched and archivolted doorways and windows. The ground floor has two square-headed windows set on a sill band, while the other houses each have a plain doorway and one window to each floor. Some houses have inserted bathroom windows, and some have been rendered. The end houses have wooden brackets supporting the gutter. They have hipped roofs, and the return elevations mirror the front, replicating the end bays. The end houses are more elaborately designed, reflecting their visual importance to both Caroline Street and Titus Street.
