Description
Scar Top Farm is a group of attached buildings comprising a farmhouse, farmbuildings, and cottages, now divided into four dwellings. The site dates to the 17th and 18th centuries. The buildings are constructed of coursed stone, with painted surfaces and stone slate roofs.
The cottage on the right-hand side has one window on the first floor. A boarded door is situated under a gabled hood to the left, with a two-light and a three-light window of 18th-century design above, featuring flat-faced mullions set in flush stone surrounds. The right gable has a kneeler, coping, and a stack.
The barn adjoins the cottage to the left and has a central 20th-century part-glazed door, a second door to the right, a blocked round-headed vent, and a lean-to byre on the left side.
The cottage to the left of the barn, originally two cottages, dates to the 17th century and has two windows on the first floor. Two 20th-century board doors are located to the left and right, flanked by two five-light windows, all beneath a continuous dripmould. Above these windows is a four-light window to the left and a three-light window to the right. Double-chamfered mullion windows are present throughout. A central stack is also visible.
One cottage is dated 1713 on its lintel. This cottage is taller and has two windows on the first floor. A 20th-century board door is positioned to the right, under a moulded lintel, with a two-light flat-faced mullion window to the left. Two sash windows are located above. An end stack is visible to the left.
