Description
This is a terrace of improved workers' houses located at 30-39 Caroline Street, Shipley, within the Saltaire model village. Completed in 1868, they were designed by Lockwood & Mawson for Titus Salt. The buildings are constructed from hammer-dressed stone, with number 39 partially rendered, and have Welsh slate roofs.
The terrace consists of ten houses, each two storeys high, except for number 30, which has an additional bay to the left. The end houses slightly project and have gables. Each house originally featured entrances with fanlights recessed in a stepped reveal, while the ground-floor windows are round-arched and archivolted. Number 30 has been altered in the 20th century with a modern ground-floor frontage, now housing a launderette. The first-floor windows are square-headed, except for those in the end houses, which have a group of three round-arched windows. A first-floor sill band runs along the terrace. Stone brackets support the guttering.
