Description
Nos 34 to 44 on Sunbridge Road is a terrace built around 1870-1880, rising towards the corner with Upper Millergate. Nos 34 and 36 are four-storey buildings made of sandstone ashlar, featuring flanking and dividing pilasters, sill courses, and a cornice with console brackets. Each has three windows on the first floor, which are archivolt arched and enhanced by pilasters, along with panelled aprons below. The ground floor has been modernized. Nos 38 to 44, constructed in 1879, are also made of sandstone ashlar and include a cornice over the ground floor supported by heavy console brackets, topped with modified anthemion crests. These buildings have three or four bay fronts, sill bands, a frieze, and a moulded eaves cornice. The first-floor windows are framed with architrave surrounds and have cornices above. The ground floors have modern shop fronts, and there is a splayed corner with a similar return.
