Description

High Stead Farm House is a 16th-century farmhouse situated on Ben Rhydding Drive in Ilkley. The building is two storeys high and constructed of squared, coursed stone with a stone slab roof. The original portion exhibits mullioned windows with semi-circular heads to the lights, an arched fireplace, and a square chimney stack built diamond-wise on a square base. A later addition features mullioned windows, some of which now have wooden frames. The lintel above the south doorway is initialled W.I.V. and dated 1596. The initials W.V. are also carved on an oak post supporting a floor beam. The house contains some carved oak panelling. It is thought the house may have been built by a member of the Vavasour family of Weston Hall.
