Description

The railings, walls, and gates to Ardenlea are located on Queen's Drive in Ilkley and were constructed in 1881. They were designed by Thomas Hope of Bradford for George Thorpe. The structure features coursed stone with ashlar dressings and cast iron railings.

There are two sets of square ashlar gate piers with moulded bases and chamfered sides that rise to octagonal central sections adorned with incised banding and curved tops on each face. The upper circular section of the piers displays a Greek key pattern and has moulded circular caps with ogee tops and ribs. The piers on the right still have their original iron finials. Connecting these piers are low stone walls with curved ashlar coping, which are topped with cast iron railings, along with sections of full-height walling that also feature similar coping.
