Description
The pier located at the north-east of the garden of Number 1 is a Grade II listed structure, designed by the architect Edwin Lutyens as part of the overall garden design for Heathcote, completed between 1906 and 1908. This pier corresponds to a pair of gatepiers on the opposite side of Grove Road, which flank the entrance to the garden. It is constructed from coursed rubble and features a banded sphere on top. The piers at the north-east of the garden of Number 1 and the north-west of the garden of Number 11 are part of a group of structures surrounding Heathcote, designed as a cohesive composition by Lutyens.
