Description
A large house, dating from the mid to late 19th century, situated within the Bingley St. Ives Estate. The house is constructed of dressed stone with blue-slate roofs. It is a building of complex development, forming a U-shape with a Doric porte-cochere centrally positioned between projecting wings to the rear. The front elevation has 11 bays of varying size, with bays 1 and 2, and 7 and 8 projecting forward. The first seven bays may represent the original house, incorporating projecting two-bay, three-storey corner towers. The windows are tall, 12-pane sashes. The seventh bay was altered in the 19th century with the addition of a right-hand extension featuring an oriel window to the left, displaying a carved heraldic shield with an inscription that matches that above the door of Old Harden Grange. A lateral stack is positioned above the oriel, along with several other stacks on the building. The right-hand return elevation has four bays of sash windows, with canted bay windows on each floor.
The interior features a large entrance hall with fluted Ionic columns flanked by pilasters, leading to a Jacobean-style Imperial staircase. A substantial fireplace contains fluted pilasters surmounted by paired Corinthian columns and a richly-moulded stone surround. Heraldic stained glass depicting the arms of the Ferrands, quartered with arms of related families, is also present.
