Description
The Stable Block, now used as offices, a laboratory, and a garage, was originally built in 1900 for the Turf Research Institute. It features hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressing and a slate roof, and is designed in a V-shape with a prominent central block. The central block has a two-storey, five-bay symmetrical facade with banded pilasters between the bays. The central three bays contain raised semicircular archways, which house three-light windows on the ground floor of the second and fourth bays. Each bay has a first-floor window with a segmental lintel, complemented by false ogee lintels and a domed cap. The wings of the building have coped gables with kneelers and finials. The right wing features a datestone set in a blind arch above a four-light flat-faced mullioned window. Additionally, a cross of the Knights Templars, likely from the 17th century, is set in the apex of the right gable. The left wing is a single-storey structure.
