Description

The Manor House, now divided into three dwellings, was built in 1648 in Keighley, for John Hird. It is constructed of coursed stone with a stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high and has four windows on the first floor. A chamfered doorway is topped with a shaped lintel bearing the date. The ground floor windows are double-chamfered mullion windows, with 4, 6, 4, 2, and 2 lights respectively; some mullions have been removed, and one window has been converted into a doorway. All ground floor windows are under hoodmoulds with carved terminals. The windows on the first floor consist of two-light mullion windows, along with two flat-faced mullion windows. There are stacks on the end to the right, along the ridge, and on the left gable. The rear of the house shows remnants of double-chamfered mullion windows. On the left return, there are double-chamfered mullion windows of 2 and 3 lights, all with hoodmoulds. The house is notable as the birthplace of T.P. Carrodus, a well-known Victorian violinist.
