Description
Box Tree is an early 18th-century house that has been converted into a restaurant. It is located on the corner of Church Street and Cunliffe Road in Ilkley. The building is two storeys tall and constructed from squared, coursed stone with a stone slab roof featuring kneelers. There are three windows on the front; the central window has moulded architraves, while the left window is a two-light design and the right window is a three-light design, both with mullions. The ground floor windows have been altered to small rectangular bay windows with leaded lights. The central doorway, which has a moulded architrave and a steep pediment, has had a similar window inserted. A modern extension, built at right angles to the main block and with a separate roof, projects from the left side of the building. This extension features chamfered quoining on its inner corner, which matches the quoining on the right-hand end of the original block, while the left-hand end of the original block has had this detail removed. Inside, there is an original open fireplace with moulded jambs and arch stones.
