Description
Bowling Green Mill is a mill, engine house, and attached chimney, dated 1871 and currently occupied by Damart. The building features hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and has a tall parapet that was added in the mid-20th century. It stands five storeys high with 24 bays and includes a six-storey tower. The tower, located to the left, has a battered base and a segmental-arched doorway with a band above it. It features 2-light and 3-light windows, with the fourth storey having a 2-light window set within a semi-circular arch with a keystone. The fifth floor has four tall windows with bracketed cornices above and below, topped by a water tower. The main range has seven bays of windows with sill bands, and the third bay projects. Other bays at the rear are obscured by a modern extension that has a windowed wall and flat roof. The rear of the building has 24 bays of windows. The left-hand return of the tower displays a circular date plaque on the fifth floor. To the left, there is a three-storey gabled engine house with bracketed eaves and a horizontal window, the lintel of which is decoratively carved with machinery. The tall, tapering chimney has a battered base, a cornice, and a moulded cornice at the cap with elongated consoles. This building is a prominent feature within the town.
