Description
This is a terrace of 11 improved overlookers' houses, completed by 1868 as part of the Saltaire model village, designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt. The houses are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a Welsh slate roof. Nos 39–49 are three-storey in height, while the remaining properties are two-storey. Each house features two bays, with Nos 27, 39, 49, and 61 projecting slightly and featuring gables. The first floor of these houses has a Venetian Gothic two-light window with a central engaged colonnette, a blind circle within the tympanum, and alternately coloured voussoirs. Ground-floor entrances and windows are round-arched and archivolted. Nos 27 and 43 each have a later, large square-headed window. The remaining first and second-floor windows are square-headed. Sill bands are present on the first and second floors, and shaped stone brackets support the gutter. Long brackets are found on the gable copings. Two-bay side elevations are also present.
