Description
The left hand glasshouse on the north-west side of the Botanical Gardens in Sheffield was built between 1837 and 1838, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. Designed by BB Taylor, it features ashlar and render construction, along with cast-iron framing that supports a glazed square domed roof. The roof has a square central light surrounded by a metal balustrade designed to resemble leaves. The glasshouse has a plinth, Corinthian pilasters, and an entablature. It is a single-storey building with three bays by three bays. The central entrance consists of double doors with sidelights and a cross casement overlight. On either side of the entrance, there are large glazing bar cross casements, and the left return has three similar casements. The right return is rendered. This glasshouse is part of a group of three originally connected by colonnades.
