Description
The Stone House Public House is a public house built around 1840, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a roof that is not visible, along with a single brick chimney stack. The building has a plinth, a first-floor band, a sill band, an eaves cornice, and a shaped blocking course.
It stands two storeys high and has a five-window range. The windows are primarily 12-pane sashes. The central section projects slightly and is flanked by recessed single bays, with single bay end pavilions on either side. The central window has a moulded surround and a bracketed cornice. The recessed bays each contain a window with eared surrounds. The pavilions feature panelled flanking pilasters and single windows, topped with scrolled pediments.
Below the windows, there is a band inscribed with "1795 White & Sons late Thomas Aldam 1795". The ground floor has remnants of a rusticated centre that includes a large late 20th-century doorway and a 20th-century glazing bar shop window with Gothic tracery to its right. To the left, there is a 12-pane sash window. The pavilions on either side have rusticated ground floors with recessed round-headed doorways that include fanlights. Above the doors, there are round-arched panels inscribed with "The Stone House" and "Private Lodgings". The interior has not been inspected.
