Description

Leopold Chambers is a commercial building located on Leopold Street in Sheffield, constructed in 1894 by the architectural firm Holmes & Watson for the solicitors Webster & Styring. The building features a Flemish Renaissance Revival style and is made of ashlar stone with a slate roof. It has two gable and three ridge coped ashlar stacks, an incomplete plinth, string courses, sillbands, and a coped parapet.

The structure consists of three storeys plus attics and has a six-window range with a curved front on a corner site. The windows are stone mullioned cross casements, with regular fenestration. Three bays feature canted two-storey oriel windows topped with balconies, each culminating in a dormer with a shouldered shaped gable and finial. The two intermediate bays have a four-light window on each floor, flanked by pilasters, and a smaller shaped gable to the dormer.

The right-hand entrance bay includes a tall first-floor window with three lights and double transoms, along with a three-light window on each floor above. Below this, there is an ashlar doorcase with paired Doric columns on pedestals and an entablature inscribed "Leopold Chambers," leading to panelled double doors. The ground floor has continuous late 20th-century shopfronts with ashlar pilasters. The interior has not been inspected.
