Description

The Royal Bank of Scotland, located at No. 5 Church Street in Sheffield, is a bank building constructed between 1866 and 1867, designed by Flockton & Abbott. The exterior features ashlar stonework with pink granite and is presented in a classical style. The building stands two stories tall and has a five-window range, with a recessed center flanked by pavilions. The first floor is rusticated and includes a festooned band at the capital level, topped with a dentilled cornice and an open balustrade.

In the center, there are three plain sash windows with pseudo balustrades, flanked by Corinthian pilasters. Each pavilion features a single sash window surrounded by double Corinthian granite columns. The ground floor is characterized by three round-headed windows with rusticated surrounds and keystones, supported by thin cast-iron mullions and transoms. Between these windows are square Doric pilasters with short iron railings at their bases. The pavilions contain rusticated round-headed doorways with panelled double doors and fanlights, flanked by double granite Doric columns. To the right, there is a narrow recess with a single light window above and a doorway below, topped by a round window.

The interior was refitted in the late 20th century and features Doric columns in the banking hall.
