Description
23, 25, and 27 Holme Lane, along with 389 and 391 Walkley Lane, are shops and flats built in 1911, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick with faience dressings and feature a gabled and hipped slate roof, which includes a single gable and two ridge stacks. They are designed in the Renaissance Revival style, characterized by string courses, panelled pilasters with ball finials, and coped gables. The structure has two storeys plus attics and an 11-window range of 12-pane sash windows.
The symmetrical front of the building sits on a corner site, showcasing a triple bay rounded corner with flanking pilasters and a dentilled cornice that is topped with a pierced balustrade. There are three sash windows with keyblocks and cornices, and above the central window, there is a dated cartouche adorned with sprays. The attic features two hipped dormers with two-light casements. The shopfront is reglazed and includes a splayed recess leading to the central doorway.
On either side of the central section, there are two gables, each with upper floors divided by pilasters. Each gable contains two sashes with keyblocks and steep triangular pediments. Above each gable, there is a sash window with a keyblock and cornice, along with a swagged apron. Below, each gable has a single shopfront with a side door and a single window, flanked by pilasters that have reeded scroll brackets supporting the fascia.
The shopfronts have mostly been reglazed. The interior has not been inspected.
