Description
This is a combination farmbuilding dating from the mid to late 18th century, originally built for the Ravenfield Hall estate. It is constructed of coursed, squared sandstone and features a graduated slate roof. The building is three storeys high with a one-bay centre, flanked by a two-storey, five-bay shelter shed with a loft on the west side and a barn on the east side.
On the north side, there are large quoins, and the central part of the building projects forward, featuring a round-headed window set within a round-arched panel. There is also a round-arched recess and a band beneath the tower, which has a blind oculus and an eaves cornice.
The barn on the left has an enlarged entrance on the left, supported by a steel girder, and contains slit vents arranged in three rows, along with three oculi, one of which has been altered.
The shelter shed with loft on the right side includes four basket-arched panels, with the rightmost panel containing a door. Above these, there are rectangular panels, with the central two featuring iron-barred, square windows, while the left panel has an inserted door and external iron steps. The far right bay has a round-arched window on the ground floor, with a similar blind opening above. The roofs are hipped, and the tower is topped with a ball finial.
The rear of the shelter shed with loft features an arcade of four basket-arched openings beneath panels with slatted casements, and a door beneath two slatted casements on the left. The central bay has a bricked-up round arch beneath a window and an unglazed oculus.
The barn includes slit vents, oculi, and a waggon entrance on the right, which has a wooden lintel and a relieving arch.
