Description
This hand-pump, located immediately to the north of number 44 on Kiveton Lane in Todwick, dates from the mid-19th century. It is made of cast iron and features a cylindrical shaft with a bolted flange at the base and three annulets. The barrel is fluted and has a decorative spout with a cranked handle on the left side, topped with a fluted cap and finial. A name plaque on the barrel is inscribed with "APPLEBY & CO/RENISHAW/IRONWORKS/NR CHESTERFIELD." This hand-pump is a good example of a locally-produced pump that appears to be in its original location.
