Description
This section of wall, likely built in the mid-18th century, is located on the south side of the drive to Kiveton Hall and forms the north side of a walled garden to the southwest of the house. The wall is constructed from coursed rubble limestone and features thin slab copings. It stands approximately 3 metres high and stretches about 50 metres in length. Near the west end, there is a six-panel door set in a quoined architrave with a tripartite keystone above the lintel. To the left, another doorway has a board door framed by a plain ashlar surround, with a lintel that is dated '1881'. This wall is a remnant of the landscape scheme for Kiveton Park, which was built starting in 1698 for the Dukes of Leeds. The design of the wall, particularly the quoined architrave, may be linked to the architect James Gibbs, who prepared measured drawings of both the house and this wall. The wall is included for its group value.
