Description
The gate piers located approximately 12 metres to the east of the Church of All Saints were built in the early to mid-18th century for the Aston Hall estate of Lord Holderness. They are made of ashlar sandstone and each pier features four joined shafts with five bands of vermiculated rustication. There is a plain strip along each inner face, and the piers have a cornice with a blocking course and a plinth topped with small ball finials, which likely replaced larger original balls. These piers are remnants from the earlier Aston Hall, which was demolished around 1770 and replaced by the current building known as Aughton Court. The attached walling is not considered of special interest.
