Description
The garden wall with gateway at Ulley Hall is a Grade II listed structure from the early 18th century. It features coursed, squared sandstone walling that is partly lined in brick, with ashlar piers supporting wrought-iron gates. The roadside wall with the gateway extends to the left, connecting to the front-left corner of Ulley Hall, and curves to the right around the garden at the rear of the hall.
The roadside gateway includes three stone steps and moulded plinths on large square piers, which have fielded panels on their faces. The cornices of these piers are now without ball finials. The single iron gate has spear-headed dog bars and a crested mid rail, complemented by scrolled wrought-iron side panels and an elaborate overthrow. The flanking walls have brackets against the piers, and the copings sweep down at each side before rising again near the corners of the front wall. The right return of the wall is lined with brick on the inner (south-facing) side, while the left return features a square-headed gateway at its junction with Ulley Hall.
