Description
The gate piers and attached wall at the front of Throapham House were likely built in the late 18th century. They are made from deeply-coursed, squared limestone with ashlar piers. Each pier features a plinth, a solid shaft, and a cornice topped with a large ball finial, although the finial on the left pier is now made of concrete. The attached wall slopes down and has tilted slab copings. At the left end, the wall rises and returns twice to meet a side gate next to Throapham House. The right end of the wall returns at an obtuse angle. There is also a 20th-century wall that forms the side boundary of the property, but it is not considered of special interest. This structure is included for its group value.
