Description
Walker’s Butchers/Threshing Barn is a threshing barn that has been partly converted into a shop. It dates from the late 17th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is made of dressed stone and features a pantile roof.
The east gable wall facing the street has a row of three breathers, with an inserted door and shop windows to the left. The south front has off-centre threshing doors that are now partly blocked, flanked by rows of breathers. To the left, there is a small window and above it, a boarded loft opening. The north front has off-centre threshing doors set back with a porch, and to the right, there is a projecting aisle.
Inside, the barn consists of four bays and features three plan roof trusses with small collars set at purlin level. The two bays to the east include a north aisle, supported by a timber post that carries the arcade plate, with straight braces extending from the post to the plate and tie.
