Description
St. Leonard's Cross is a cross shaft located approximately 22 metres southeast of the Church of St. Leonard. It likely dates from the late 12th to early 13th century and was moved to its current position in the 20th century. The cross is made of magnesian limestone and is now set on a sandstone plinth. It stands about 1.3 metres high and measures 33 cm by 24 cm at the base.
The west face features a relief carving that includes a figure holding an open book beneath a pointed arch at the base. Above this, there is a crudely carved animal and the legs of another figure, which are now truncated due to the irregularly broken top. The rear side displays acanthus foliage flanking a central shaft. The left side has a ring twist design with pellets, while the right side features acanthus foliage in an irregular scroll.
