Description
The Crimean War memorial pump, dating from 1856, is located approximately 20 metres to the west of the north-east entrance to Thorne Memorial Park. Made of cast iron, it features a moulded, circular trough positioned at the base of a Doric column. A plaque is affixed at the base of the column, which includes the inscription 'SUBSCRIPTION / PUMP / In Commemoration of the / PEACE. 1856 / DRINK AND BE THANKFUL'. The column is adorned with 12-sided bands beneath both the base and the capital. On the right side, there is a cranked handle, while spouts are located above the trough and on the left near the top. This pump is a rare memorial commemorating the Crimean War.
