Description

This is a late 17th-century brick farmhouse in Edenthorpe, originally listed in 1953 as Edenthorpe Manor Farmhouse and situated within the parish of Barnby Dun with Kirk Sandall. The farmhouse is constructed of red brick with ashlar quoins, all now painted, and has a renewed pantile roof. It has a roughly L-shaped plan, consisting of a five-bay front and a wing to the rear right, with an outshut forming an angle. A chamfered stone plinth is present. A 20th-century part-glazed door with overlight sits within a cemented surround featuring a raised keystone, above which are fixed letters indicating "MANOR/1606/HOUSE." Other bays on both floors contain 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars; those on the ground floor are set beneath flat arches. Plain brick kneelers and copings are visible on the left gable, while the right end features a hipped roof. A small brick end stack stands on the left, and an older ridge stack is on the right. The right return has cogged eaves. Inside, an enlarged ground-floor room on the left side contains a deeply-moulded ceiling beam and a bressumer beam incorporated into a 20th-century fireplace. The original roof structure remains, showing principal-rafter trusses with curved collars and butt purlins, though lacking a ridge piece.
