Description
Hawthorne House is a house from the early 18th century that was altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of roughcast brick and has a Welsh slate roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring three windows on the first floor. It has a double-depth plan with a lean-to addition to the rear right and a one-storey wing to the rear left. The house has a plinth and a central six-panelled door with a margin-glazed overlight, set within a pilastered and corniced doorcase. On either side of the door are two sash windows with glazing bars, projecting sills, and flush wooden architraves. The first floor has three larger sash windows with glazing bars, which likely replaced five original window openings. There are brick end stacks located in the valley at the rear of the ridge.
Inside, the front-left room features a circular ceiling panel and a wooden boss, while the front-right room has fielded panelling with a dado and a wooden cornice. The kitchen in the rear left has a spine beam and a bressumer above three infilled openings. The staircase has turned balusters with baluster-die stops against square newels, and there is a splat-balustered stair leading to the attic, which has lime-ash floors.
