Description
Numbers 2 and 3 Lock Cottages are a pair of early 19th-century cottages located on the east bank of the River Don Navigation in Stainforth. They feature a yellow brick facade laid in Flemish bond and have a pantile roof. The cottages have paired central doorways with overlights and segmental arches. On either side of the doorways, there are sash windows with glazing bars set beneath flat-headed segmental arches. The first floor has a blind central window with a projecting sill, while the outer bays mirror the ground floor windows. The cottages have cogged eaves and brick end stacks. At the rear, there are square-headed doorways and horizontally-sliding sash windows. These cottages are associated with the nearby lock and canal basin of the River Don Navigation, which still exists in an altered form. An attached dwelling known as No 1 Lock Cottages is not considered of special interest.
