Description

Stainforth Bridge is a bridge built in 1768, constructed from ashlar sandstone. It features two spans that carry the road over the River Don. The bridge has segmental arches, with mason's marks visible on some of the voussoirs and a chamfered band above. The central pier includes triangular cutwaters that rise to create pedestrian retreats in the parapet. The abutments and their parapet walls are angled outward. The copings of the parapet have later added iron handrails. The southern parapet walls have been raised following alterations to the road level. Part of the bridge is located in the parish of Fishlake.
