Description
Old Hall is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 18th century. The building features deeply-coursed, dressed sandstone that is now partly rendered. The roof is covered with 20th-century pantiles, while the 17th-century section has a stone slate eaves course beneath the old pantile roof. The house has an L-shaped plan and presents a two-storey, three-window entrance front, with a roadside wing extending to the rear left.
The entrance front has a door located to the right of the center, framed by a projecting, quoined surround. To the right of the door is a double-chamfered window. The ground floor includes sashes with glazing bars on the left, with two 4-pane sashes above and a renewed casement on the right. The garden front, which is the right return, incorporates the 17th-century house front on the right, featuring a chamfered, quoined doorway with a hoodmould that continues as a dripmould above the flanking double-chamfered mullioned windows, which have been altered to include casements. Above the door, an altered 3-light mullioned window retains one mullion and has a dripstone.
The main body of the house to the left has an old 4-panel door in a chamfered, bonded surround and two 20th-century casements to the right. On the first floor, there is a horizontally-sliding sash with glazing bars in a square-faced surround, along with a small 20th-century casement to the left. The gable end of the entrance-front range to the left features kneelers and gable copings, and there are two brick ridge stacks. At the rear of the 17th-century section, there is a large 20th-century opening beneath an intact 3-light mullioned window with iron stanchions. The additions to the rear wing are not of special interest.
