Description

The stable-block, located approximately 20 metres behind The Mews, is a late 18th-century structure now used as a garage. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a pantile roof. The building has two storeys with a dovecote loft and is arranged in a 1:3:1 bay configuration, with the central bays projecting forward and an attached wing wall on the left.

The central entrance consists of a boarded door set beneath a flat arch within a recessed round-arched panel. Flanking this door are slatted casement windows with stone sills and flat arches, while the outer bays are blind. On the first floor, the windows in bays two and four mirror those on the ground floor, and there is a boarded opening in the central bay.

An eaves cornice continues as a string course across a three-bay pediment, which features an oculus in the tympanum that is pierced by pigeon holes, topped with an apex weathervane. The ends of the building are adorned with kneelers and ashlar gable copings.

The tall wing wall on the left is set back and has a round-arched doorway with impost and keystone blocks, along with a blind recess to its left. Beyond this, there is a further wall with a garage door beneath a segmental arch, and the ashlar copings drop and sweep down to the left. This stable-block was formerly associated with No. 54, known as Pyenest.
