Description

The barn at Softley Farm is a large structure built in the 1870s or 1880s, with a slightly later addition. It is constructed from pitch-faced stone and features a stone slate roof. The barn has three bays by two, characterized by large round-arched openings that are separated by square piers, with two orders of plain voussoirs resting on simple imposts. The upper parts of some openings have been infilled with plain boarding, and the eaves overhang. At the rear, there is an additional bay that matches the original design and includes a single smaller opening, with a catslide roof over this addition. Inside, the barn contains three large queen-post trusses made of sawn softwood.
