Description
The barn at Upper Town Head Farm dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed of dry-walled, squared, coursed rubble and features a stone slate roof. The barn has four internal bays and a continuous outshut at the rear. Notable architectural details include quoins and a central cart entry that is segmental-arched and quoined. There is one square, high-level pitching hole at each end of the barn, and the gable copings are supported by moulded kneelers on the left side. At the rear, there is an opposed cart entry within the outshut, along with two quoined entrances to the outshut. Inside, the barn contains three open trusses with struts, one of which has been altered and features an adjoining king-post truss. Additionally, there is one arcade post that is braced to the arcade plate. To the right of the barn is an addition from 1826, which is not included in this listing.
